As a first generation Nicaraguan-American from humble beginnings, Leiva has had to overcome harsh adversities that many impoverished youth face in the United States. Her life experience of constantly defying the odds fuels her passion for equity and social justice. She speaks on her leadership and lived experience on radio, television, podcasts, social media streams, key note addresses, panel discussions, and one-on-one interviews in English and Spanish.

s a social innovator, she has co-founded two companies: FitLit, a non-profit that blends fitness and literature for students, and MetaMindset, an LLC that trains teachers, parents, and students on mindfulness, understanding the brain, and the importance of emotional intelligence.

She has a Master in Education from Johns Hopkins University, claims Spanglish to be her first language, is a twitter aficionado, and is a captivating storyteller on social media.
